16 organizations commited through the Mediterranean Institute for Market research and Sustainable Development

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

16 organizations commited through the Mediterranean Institute for Market research and Sustainable Development to raise awareness about ecological vehicles and renewable energies at Ever Monaco with “My company eco-drives and consumes green energies“.

On the occasion of Ever Monaco, International Exhibition for Ecological Vehicles and Renewable Energies, which runs from March, the 31st to April, the 3rd 2011, at the Grimaldi Forum Monaco, certified ISO 14001 conference center, 16 Monegasque and French organizations, businesses and NGO’s got united together to support the project of the Mediterranean Institute for Market Research and Sustainable Development, in favour of an awareness to ecological vehicles and renewable energies through an eco-responsible communication campaign entitled “My company eco-drives and consumes green energies”, a campaign almost entirely paperless by the Internet and social networks, which was made possible through the support of organizations involved in sustainable development, such as Synergy Event or our printer, who has also undertaken an environmental approach.
The Organizing Committee of Ever Monaco joined the project, MITI, a Monegasque communication and event company working in the field of automotive, Monte Carlo Sustainable Development (MC2D), a NGO federating a network of Monegasque NGO’s working for environmental and social projects in the Principality of Monaco, the pioneer of hybrid vehicles, Lexus Monaco, was also associated with this project, as well as Toyota Monaco, as well as the young company Hybrelec France, the first website listings of environmentally friendly vehicles, a company built on the model of sustainable development, which aims at creating an international development. The Company Monegasque of Transports also wished to demonstrate its support for sustainable development, reiterating its previous partnership on the occasion of Monacology in 2010.
Green Plus, a company working to green regeneration and the Stars’n'Bars, American restaurant in Monaco, reiterated their support for sustainable development, as well as WK, jewellery manufacturer and Tremplin Promotion, which has developed a range of green products for the advertising.
Finally, the Monegasque and international press is involved, particularly through the Podcast Journal, MontecarloIn, international newspaper in Italian, and the ethical web radio dedicated to positive changes, followed by over 40,000 people, Radio Ethic.
All companies associated to the campaign “My company eco-drives and consumes green energies” are also commited in a process of corporate social responsibility, and for them to support the Mediterranean Institute for Market Research and Sustainable Development at Ever Monaco is part of their corporate social agenda. Indeed, the project conducted allows them to benefit from visibility for their commitments, with a presentation of their CSR actions, on the website dedicated to Ever Monaco, it allows them to show their support for ecological vehicles, and renewable energies, some of them already subscribing to the contract Edenergie from the Monegasque Company For Electricity and Gas (SMEG), and others, by commiting to certification for an electrically green website.

In addition to this collaborative action to raise awareness, the Mediterranean Institute for Market Research and Sustainable Development will organize a market study at Ever Monaco to perform a targeting of the visitors, as part of the CSR commitments (relationships with stakeholders), and will publish a statistical summary of the latest trends from the major research institutes in the field of ecological vehicles and renewable energies, a way to get informed about the perception of these technologies and intents/terms of use, mainly based on the triptych “state- manufacturer-user”.

No doubt that Ever Monaco contributes to the federation of organizations to sustainable development, hoping for the 2012 edition, an even greater mobilization of businesses, particularly in the area of ecological vehicles and renewable energies, to affirm together, our vision of sustainable development in the Principality of Monaco and in the Mediterranean.

Earth Day in Monaco at the Méridien Beach Plaza

Sunday, March 27th, 2011

60 minutes for the planet , is a global initiative from the WWF, during which it is asked to public, private, voluntary, and people, to turn off the lights for one hour to show their support for climate change.
On the 26th of March 2011 was therefore launched the 4th edition of the "Earth Hour ", a symbolic and unifying initiative aimed to "enlighten consciences" about the importance of saving energy.

For several years now in the Principality of Monaco, Le Meridien Beach Plaza institutionalizes the Earth Hour by organizing a unifying event, to promote and convey the importance of energy management. Again this year, the Meridien Beach Plaza reiterated the event in conjunction with different organizations in the Principality, including the Mediterranean Institute for Market Research and Sustainable Development, or the Department of Tourism & Conventions (strongly involved in the Monegasque federation of the hotel industry, to work towards an environmentally responsible tourism in Monaco).

60 minutes for the planet at the Méridien Beach Plaza Monaco…

The Meridien Beach Plaza Monaco is strongly committed to corporate social responsibility, it has also recently obtained a label "Green Key", attesting the quality of its environmental entrepreneurship.
On the occasion of the Earth Hour, the Green Team of the hotel Meridien Beach Plaza Monaco had organized an eco-cocktail, whose goal was to meet and share social initiatives regarding the hotel (the recent installation of solar panels, the initiative to reduce the laundry to save water, partnerships with eco-producers,…).
During the evening, Sebastian Longhi, head of the Green Team at the Meridien Beach Plaza, recalled the particular importance of building relationships and unifying links on sustainable development in Monaco, to share the best practices, and reiterated the will of its hotel to take action in this direction.

Beyond this event, it should be noted that the energies management must be daily undertaken, and that the Earth Day is a manifestation of this entrepreneurial. Nevertheless, the Earth Day, as any initiative to sensitize has the merit of raising awareness about environmental issues and to be part of the international agenda for sustainable development, celebrating the commitment and the mobilization of all.

Green Thursdays – World Water Day in Monaco

Friday, March 25th, 2011

On the occasion of the World Water Day, annually celebrated on March the 22nd, The Monaco Town Hall, assisted by the NGO MC2D organized a new Green Thursday, on March the 24th, 2011, with a special tour of the water tank of the Exotic Garden, followed by a conference / debate in the meeting Room at the Anthropological Museum of Monaco. For this awareness event in Monaco for water preservation, The Monaco Town Hall and MC2D presented a range of experts, who allowed the public to understand the water issue.

Speakers were : Mr. Philippe Mondielli, Scientific Director of the Foundation Prince Albert II of Monaco, Mr. Nardi, Managing Director of the Société Monégasque des Eaux (Water Company), Monaco, Dr. Jean Lorenzi, Project Manager, Medical Inspector of the Public Health Directorate, Health and Social Affairs, Mr. Philippe Sorlin, Hospital Practitioner, Laboratory of Biology of the Princess Grace Hospital, Principality of Monaco. The conference was moderated by Mr. Raoul Viora, President of NGO Monte Carlo Sustainable Development, in collaboration with Mrs. Marjorie Crovetto Harroch, Councilor at the City Hall of Monaco, initiator of the Green Thursdays.

The main objective in Monaco is to reduce consumption of potable water
There are several water sources in the Principality of Monaco, sources Larvotto (Vaulabelle), the sources Ingram and Marie, representing 30% of the water resource, the rest being imported from the Canal de la Vésubie in France and from the Valley Roya in Italy, placing the Principality, in a configuration of cross-border supply.

A portion of water from the Vallée de la Noix is recovered for the Société Monégasque d’Assainissement (waste company), for the cleaning of the streets of the eastern part of the Principality. All freshwater of the Vallée de la Noix does not directly end its trip in the sea, allowing an average annual saving of 30,000 m3 of drinking water, even up to 50 000 m3 some years. Similarly, in the district of Fontvieille, rainwater is collected, separately from wastewater.
For the Société Monegasque des Eaux, in charge of the collection and treatments of water in the Principality, the water reasoning is based on the typology of users, large consumers, the Government, the Société des Bains de Mer (an example in terms of reducing water consumption, -50% in less than 10 years), cleaning companies, neighborhoods (Beausoleil and Fontvieille), construction sites, port …
Overall, through the various decisions taken since 2000, it was possible to reduce by 13.5% (2000-2008), water consumption in the Principality of Monaco.

What sources of Monaco for the future?
Various studies have shown that there are marine sources of fresh water in the sea, very close to the shore, constituting what is commonly called, "freshwater Mushrooms". The principles of abstraction of this water source are still under investigation, but already, some coastal towns are interested. Fresh water in the sea

Marin Sources in Monaco , more information on this video (only in french)

What treatments for water?
The Société Monegasque des Eaux (company in charge) makes two water treatments (sand filtration to remove turbidity, and chlorine dioxide, to eradicate the infection).
Water collected in the Principality of Monaco (or from French or Italian sources), is naturally relatively healthy, because the region has few activities of intensive agriculture, and little heavy industry, limiting pollutions to pesticides and heavy metals. The treatments are so light.
Wastewater is also treated before discharge into the sea, with a quality that meets European standards.

What is the definition of drinking water?
A drinking water is said, when consumption can be safely observed over time. Drinking water meets a number of settings making it fit for human consumption.

The standard reference used in this area are different depending on the authority in charge of this definition worldwide, according to local histories and cultural visions.
The Société Monegasque des Eaux (company in charge), reminds that water is the most controlled "food", in the world. Drinking water is colorless, odorless and tasteless.

Its regulatory parameters are: the sensory quality (color, turbidity, odor, taste), and the natural physical and chemical parameters (temperature, pH, chloride: 200 mg / l, sulfate 250 mg / l, etc.). The undesirable substances (nitrate: 50 mg / l, nitrites, pesticides, etc..) toxic substances (arsenic, cadmium, lead, hydrocarbons, etc.). microbiological parameters (water should not contain pathogenic organisms).
For the case of the Principality of Monaco, the storage capacity is 25 000 m3 per day, equivalent to daily consumption. For health reasons, water can be stored.

Focus on protecting water resources
Particular attention is paid to the protection of the resource to avoid all types of contamination (discretion of the facilities, taking into account the risk of terrorism, control of remote access, treatment ,…). The future for water protection is an early warning system for testing water quality before it enters the network, so as to avoid all types of contamination in the network.
In terms of avoiding contamination, the Monegasque Government regularly monitors the water in order to respond to strict standards of quality for about one year, to obtain the permission to capture water. Regulatory controls are performed by independent laboratories. If contaminated with health risk, principles of population warning are put into force.
French health standards are applied in Monaco and the Monegasque Government seeks to enforce, as the European standards in this area (European Directive of the 3rd of November 1998 and the French Health Code, Article L1321, and Decree of December the 20th, 2001).

The Hospital Center Princess Grace is also an actor in the protection of water resource in the Principality of Monaco, through health inspections of water, filtration, cultivation .. The main organisms sought include the Escherichia coli or E. coli, an intestinal bacterium mammals very common in humans. It is a fecal coliform, which in its pathogenic form, can cause gastroenteritis, urinary tract infections, meningitis, or sepsis. For analysis, the principle is that if some germs or bacteria are not detected, then other germs or bacteria of the first dependent, can not grow. Also, researches focus on certain types of germs or bacteria (Escherichia coli, staphylococcus, pseudomonas and legionella).

The Mediterranean Institute for Market Research and Sustainable Development, meanwhile, retains some important points in this Green Thursday:
The water issue is central to all concerns in the Principality of Monaco.
The technical, organizational and human resources are in line for a better resource management and protection of its quality.
The water issue is closely related to the problem of public health.
The precautionary principle and warning are there.
The Monegasque network of water is mobilized.

Also let us recall that according to a poll conducted by TNSofrès for the Information Centre on Water in 2010, the French consume more tap water (75%) than bottled water, demonstrating their confidence in the keyplayers of the water sector (86% trust them). 87% of the French also pay attention to reduce quantities of water used at home (survey of 1954 individuals aged from 18 and above from a nationally representative sample, January and February 2010).

Reminder of the World Water Day
The United Nations General Assembly adopted on the 22nd of December 1992 the resolution A/RES/47/193, declaring March 22nd of each year, World Day for Water, from 1993, according to the recommendations of the Conference of Nations on Environment and Development. This resolution invites States to devote this day according to the national context, to concrete activities such as public education, business, … The Mediterranean Institute for Market Research and Sustainable Development associates with this approach to raise the awareness of stakeholders in the water issues inviting organizations to place water as one of the main priority of their Corporate Social Responsibility.

Ever Monaco, 4 dedicated days to ecological vehicles and renewable energies

Ever Monaco (International tradeshow of ecological vehicles and renewable energies) will open its doors on March the 31st, 2011, for an intensive four-day fair of ecological vehicles and renewable energies. Many manufacturers and suppliers will attend this year and will present some novelties.
Ever Monaco, are two exhibitions, the first, dedicated to ecological vehicles and the other, to renewable energies, the idea being to provide a rich and focused panel on environmental solutions.
In Ever Monaco, they are also events (conferences and roundtables, a rally, a chance to try ecological vehicles, a parade, a performance challenge ),…

For more information : www.ever-monaco.com

For the occasion of EVER Monaco, the Mediterranean Institute for Market Research and Sustainable Development is committed in two ways, to support awareness of ecological vehicles and renewable energies:

- First, by supporting the Organising Committee (MITI and MC2D) for a survey to the visitors. Already in 2010, the Mediterranean Institute for Market Research and Sustainable Development had been working with the Organizing Committee for a survey on the perception of the show by the exhibitors.

- The second, by conducting an awareness campaign on ecological vehicles and renewable energies, embodied in several forms: a poster campaign presented on the show, a website dedicated to Ever Monaco, two publications of studies synthesis, conducted by leading international research institutes (LH2, TNSofrès, Ifop, BVA, ESCP Europe, Cap Gemini Consulting, …), presented at Ever Monaco, and also on YouTube. Advocacy on ecological vehicles and renewable energies is produced in French and English, to share the experience of Monaco abroad. Several organizations are involved in this awareness.

The Mediterranean Institute for Market Research and Sustainable Development shares its advocacy on ecological vehicles and renewable energies with the Internet users, to remind them that according to experts, about 30% of greenhouse gas emissions are produced by vehicles, and it is the social responsibility of everyone to move towards the path of environmentally friendly vehicles.

The IMEDD committment for Green IT

Monday, March 21st, 2011

The Mediterranean Institute for Market Research and Sustainable Development is being certified WATT IMPACT, a green energy solution for websites.

Electricity consumption in the IT sector generates 2% of the emissions of greenhouse gases on the planet, as much as the air transport. (source: Gartner).
In a global context, where computer equipment is constantly growing as the economy grows increasingly on the Internet and via computer, the Mediterranean Institute for Market Research and Sustainable Development has been aware of its carbon impact , and selected through WATT IMPACT to eco-neutralize its CO2 emissions in the atmosphere and to support renewable energies.

The company Watt Value , in charge of developing the solution WATT IMPACT considers that environmental issues are the fundamental principles of purchasing green energy certificates.

1. The offer  WATT IMPACT consists in a range of Internet services for the promotion of sustainable electricity production from renewable energy sources within the meaning of the Directive 2001/77/EC of 27 September 2001.
2. The origin of electricity is guaranteed by a reliable traceability system and recognized at the European level. The withdrawal of certificates is the authentic act of purchasing green energy.
3. "Eligibility"  WATT IMPACT services, that is to say, the question concerning the choice of plants is enhanced by the criteria of environmental impact of each technology. For some courses, additional and independent audits are conducted to certify the environmental excellence of the production.
4.  WATT IMPACT services are designed to foster the development of renewable electric light of European and national targets.
5. "Additionality"  WATT IMPACT services, that is to say the contribution "New renewable energy", is set at 1 € c / kWh certified.
6. These funds, collected under the commitment of reinvestment shall be repaid in projects to develop new production capacity of renewable electricity.
7. The commitments are verifiable defined by objective criteria.
8. The set of acceptance criteria is likely to evolve given the evolution of standards and European quality standards.
9. Information and transparency are the two priorities of the communication.
10.  WATT IMPACT services are part of a goal to raise awareness of energy consumption and sustainable development.

To support the development of renewable energy, 19 countries have united around the RECS, international organization whose mission is to promote a pan-European market for renewable energy supply, facilitated by an information system commonly accepted in Europe.
In France, the organization Observ’ER, with the observatory of renewable energies, is the institute responsible for the emissions of green certificates with the exclusive mandate of the RECS. He is a founding member of the "Association of Issuing Bodies"

All certificates for electricity produced from renewable energy sold by Watt Value are conform to the European standards EECS (European Energy Certificate System).
Since its creation, inspired by the label naturemade, Watt Value was among the first players to have in setting up the label of green electricity EVE on the French market, an initiative driven by the Liaison Committee for Renewable Energy (CLER ) and WWF-France.

The Mediterranean Institute for Market Research and Sustainable Development joins the Charter ECOWATT Provence Azur

Monday, February 28th, 2011

A franco-monégasque initiative to encourage the energy management

The Mediterranean Institute for Market Research and Sustainable Development signed the Charter ECOWATT Provence Azur, an initiative from the Electricity Transmission Network (RTE) and its partners, the Prefecture of Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur, the Conseil Général of the Alpes-Maritimes, Conseil Général of the Var, the Principality of Monaco, ERDF and ADEME, to rise awareness to the risk of power outages.
Indeed, the Region Provence Alpes Cote d’Azur and the Principality of Monaco are regularly faced with risk of powers interruptions during electric consumption peaks in the winter.
The initiative for RTE and its partners is based on the website www.ecowatt-provence-azur.fr
"Ecowatt Azur Provence, le bon geste pour l’énergie" is a mobilization campaign to control the electricity consumption.
This innovative and original operation, based on the web site www.ecowatt-provence-azur.fr, which triggers "alerts" in the spirit of green, orange, red or black days, by Bison Fûté in France, aimed at ÉcoW’acteurs.
This device uses moderation in consumption of electricity, relayed by email and SMSand it is based on the mobilization of all citizens. It prolongs the experiment launched in 2007 with the web site www.securite-electric-paca.fr. All the inhabitants, and also local authorities, businesses and NGO’s are invited to mobilize in favor of controlling power consumption, by joining the community of ÉcoW’acteurs and relaying information. Communities, businesses, and NGO’s are also encouraged to engage in the process by signing the charter ECOWATT Provence Azur.
The Mediterranean Institute for Market Research and Sustainable Development materializes his membership ECOWATT in three ways, first by relaying information on the initiative ECOWATT in Monaco and PACA, through this article on IMEDD Infos, in French and English, the second, by the fact of indicating the signature by the IMEDD of the Charter ECOWATT in the area of our web site called "The Corporate Social Responsibility of IMEDD", and third, by encouraging companies in the Principality, and PACA to join this action and to allow their employees to participate in ECOWATT, on behalf of their company.
The Mediterranean Institute for Market Research and Sustainable Development supports ECOWATT because this action is a concrete initiative concerning a federation of men and organizations for energy management, whose goal is to make each act, at critical moments of energy standpoints.
